At the dorm, I was asked by a few students about what food seemed interesting and after explaining a few dishes to me, I was taken to an oconomiyaki (お好み焼き)restaurant. It was a very interesting place. When you entered you took off your shoes and where taken to a place to sit. The place were I sat was set a little bit lower than the floor which was pretty cool. I never ate at a place like this and it was interesting getting use to the sitting arrangement. After the group I was with sat down we all ate a little bit from this salad bar. The various things offered were good. After a little while, the server brought over a lot of various ingredients. The people I was with, as well as myself, followed the directions that were provided and started to create the food which was a lot of fun. Also, I got to flip one of the お好み焼き that was created which was neat.
After the お好み焼き was created, we split it into equal portions and ate it. It was very good. The student sitting next to me created this very interesting as well as tasty creation from the ingredients that were brought. It was interesting because when it was finished you had to scrape it to eat it by using small metal scrapers that looked a little bit like spatulas. After we all finished eating the food, everyone in our group, including myself, had a little desert. I tried some jelly like substance as well as bananas with some kind of frosting. The desert was very delicious, especially when I added some toppings to the brown gelatin cubes and white gelatin spheres. After we were all finished, we got are shoes and went back to the international dorm. The お好み焼き was really good, I had never had it before and it was really fun getting to try something new like this.
